“Sing ye to Jehovah…The song of Moses…and the song of the Lamb”
The author, Kenneth Wells, addresses beliefs and practices that have been sources of disagreement/division among Churches of Christ since 1907. He also asks all Christians to reconsider a formula for Christian unity once promoted by
Thomas Campbell. This scriptural approach for Christian unity proved successful
in the past when consistently followed between 1809 through 1849
The Declaration and Address Review
This journal is dedicated to a study of Scripture based ideas and principles contained in a document published in 1809 called the Declaration and Address. That document was published by an association of professed Christians who were dedicated to seeking Christian unity on the following basis: “. . . of promoting simple evangelical Christianity . . . to practice that simple original form of Christianity, expressly exhibited upon the sacred page; without attempting to inculcate anything of human authority, of private opinion; or inventions of men, as having any place in the constitution, faith, or worship, of the Christian Church, . . . for which there can not be expressly produced a ‘Thus saith the Lord, either in express terms, or by approved precedent.’ "
Facing Our Failure
by Todd Deaver
Should the use of instrumental music in worship be a test of fellowship? Many in Churches of Christ say yes. If so, what about praise teams, handclapping during worship, praying to Jesus, or female translators? Must we divide when we disagree over the veil, the qualifications of elders, or divorce and remarriage? This book documents the extreme diversity of views held by traditional brethren who are in fellowship with each other. These brethren disagree over the scriptural boundaries of fellowship, which practices are biblically authorized, and which issues we must be right about in order to be saved. The one thing they have in common is a belief that fidelity to God requires us to be right on all these matters. And yet they somehow remain in fellowship with each other. Is this consistent? The author fervently pleads for Churches of Christ to acknowledge the failure of the traditional paradigm.
